The process
A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow the best part of a day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.
- We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the next day.
Before we arrive
- Open a window if you can
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Clear the area around the damage

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Navestock Side
Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We work on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and stains that won’t shift.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
What we cannot put right
Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:
- A bath split right through the body
- Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
Materials we work on in Navestock Side
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
- Cast iron baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Navestock Side questions
Do you come to Navestock Side?
We do. We send a technician to Navestock Side for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
Which areas do you work in?
All of Essex, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.
How long will the bath be out of use?
One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.
Can you quote from pictures?
Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.
How quickly can you book me in?
That depends on our diary for your area. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.
How durable is a resurfaced bath?
It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.
What do you need from me?
Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.
Keeping it looking good
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:
- Never use suction bath mats
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Store bottles off the bath
Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
For landlords and businesses
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will arrange it.
Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

What we are called out for in Navestock Side
Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- Several chips and rust patches
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- A roll-top that’s seen better days
- A coloured bath you want in white
What to look for in a quote
- Who turns up on the day
- What aftercare is recommended
- When it can be used again
- Whether they match the colour on site
Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing a bath typically involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.
