Common problems we fix in New Town

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • What preparation is included
  • Who turns up on the day
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

Our hiring checklist

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why book with us

  • Work done at your home or business
  • No need to remove anything
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our full price list or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

When we’d advise against a repair

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in New Town

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Usually, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Dorset, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

The process

Your technician turns up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
