Bath re-enamelling in Newhaven without replacing anything

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We’re frequently asked to fix staining under the taps and around the waste and an old resurfacing that’s failing, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Newhaven

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Will the price change on the day?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

When to call us in Newhaven

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Common reasons people in Newhaven contact us include:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A coloured bath you want in white

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Who will actually do the work
  • How to care for the finish
  • What protection goes down before work starts

Our hiring checklist

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Repair dripping taps early

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, and get on with the job, which generally takes most of the day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Honest limits

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Work done at your home or business
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Normally one visit, start to finish

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.
