Nunney: your questions answered

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

How long is the bath unusable?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is there a smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Bath re-enamelling in Nunney, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. If you’re dealing with an old resurfacing that’s failing and chips and rust in more than one place, we can help, whatever the material.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

How the visit works

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes a full day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
