Bath re-enamelling near Offord Cluny

About our bath re-enamelling in Offord Cluny

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a coloured bath you want in white and lots of chips and rust spots.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking.

What we are called out for in Offord Cluny

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. We strip what’s failing and start again.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

What to look for in a quote

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How long it needs to cure
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
