Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Old Durham use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How much damage there is

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed price without visiting.

Common questions in Old Durham

What information do you need?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. If photos do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Will the bath be moved?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Old Durham?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your DH1 postcode.

How long will the bath be out of use?

One day for most baths, ready the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What happens on the day

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a full day, tidy-up included.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Ask for a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Related advice

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Repair dripping taps early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
