Bath re-enamelling in Overtown

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Overtown

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We regularly repair basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about an outdated colour you’d like to change and an old resurfacing that’s failing.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Open a window if you can

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
