Bath re-enamelling in Poolfold

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Poolfold

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. We work on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Poolfold

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material
  • The type of damage

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your photos

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.

How it works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a full day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Getting a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
