Bath re-enamelling in Portchester, done in place
Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We regularly repair acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Portchester as everywhere else we work.

How we price bath re-enamelling
Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before you book. We take into account:
- The type of damage
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- The material and finish
- Any earlier repairs that need removing first
What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.
Send pictures for a quote
You can usually get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
- A wider photo showing the whole bath
- The material, if you know it
- Where you are, by postcode
No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.
FAQs for Portchester
Which areas do you work in?
All of Hampshire, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.
Will the bath be moved?
No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.
Do you cover Portchester?
We do. Technicians travel to Portchester from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.
Can tenants book a repair?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.
Can a failed resurfacing be redone?
In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send pictures.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Portchester
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
Can I fix it myself?
A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
Repairing versus replacing in Portchester
When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

What we can’t put right
We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we work on
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
What happens on the day
There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to the best part of a day, tidy-up included.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.
How to prepare
- Have a window or extractor fan available
- Clear the area around the damage
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
