Bath re-enamelling in Ramsden

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Ramsden

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are a roll-top that’s seen better days and several chips and rust patches.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Common questions in Ramsden

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We come back with a fixed price, usually with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send pictures.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

When to call us in Ramsden

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits

Our hiring checklist

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Oxfordshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job normally takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.
