When a repair isn’t the answer

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

About our bath re-enamelling in Finstock

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common call-outs are for wear marks under the taps and a roll-top that’s seen better days, in Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Finstock

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Do you cover Finstock?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Finstock and the rest of Oxfordshire. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the next day. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

How to look after the repair

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Repair or replace in Finstock?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, generally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

Two or three clear photos are usually enough. It helps if you send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job the same day in most cases.
