Bath re-enamelling in Bicester

When to call us in Bicester

Enamel does not fail overnight. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths dull the surface, starting where water runs and sits.

The things clients generally mention when they call include:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • How soon you can use it again

About our bath re-enamelling in Bicester

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We regularly repair cast iron baths, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about an outdated colour you’d like to change and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Bicester: your questions answered

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes most of the day. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

If you manage property in Bicester, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.
