Bath re-enamelling at your home in Robin Hood's Bay
After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We work on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and an old resurfacing that’s failing.
Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

How it works
Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.
How to prepare
- Open a window if you can
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Honest limits
We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
- A bath split right through the body
- A bath that’s rusted through
If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Acrylic
We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Should you replace it?
A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Can I fix it myself?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.
Aftercare tips
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Store bottles off the bath
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
- Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale can’t build up.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Robin Hood's Bay
Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is usually perfectly sound.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- Wear marks under the taps
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
