About our bath re-enamelling in Salem

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Whether it’s several chips and rust patches and an old resurfacing that’s failing, we can normally put it right.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

When we would advise against a repair

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Why book with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

See our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

What affects the price in Salem

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The type of damage
  • The material and finish

A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Salem: your questions answered

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Do you work in Salem?

We do. Technicians travel to Salem from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
