Bath re-enamelling at your home in Scald End

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. Typical jobs include worn patches where water runs and sits and staining under the taps and around the waste, in basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Scald End as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

What we are called out for in Scald End

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

What to look for in a quote

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • How the colour is matched

Choosing a repair company

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Common questions in Scald End

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Typically, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do you cover the whole of Bedford Borough?

All of Bedford Borough, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes most of the day. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Preparing for the visit
