Repairs by material

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

About our bath re-enamelling in Shiplake

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Common call-outs are for a peeling or bubbling previous coating and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Why repair rather than replace?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You will see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Honest limits

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

FAQs for Shiplake

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. Every job gets a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your RG9 postcode.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

When to call us in Shiplake

Often the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.

Most people contact us when they notice something like this:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • If travel is included in the price
  • What prep work is covered
  • How the room is protected while they work

Choosing a repair company

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
