How we handle bath re-enamelling in Skimpot
Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Common call-outs are for a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and thin, worn enamel in places, on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:
- The material and finish
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- How much damage there is
The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book.
Getting a price from photos
Phone photos are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Aftercare tips
Once the work has cured, treat it gently:
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
Skimpot questions
How long does re-enamelling last?
Care for it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.
Can you fix a peeling bath coating?
In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Do you charge for travel?
No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.
How long will the bath be out of use?
One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.
What information do you need?
Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
Can you price it without visiting?
Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.
Should you replace it?
Replacing a bath generally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
Why book with us
- Honest advice, even when it means no job
- Work done at your home or business

Can I fix it myself?
A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
What we do, step by step
We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.
- The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
- Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Let us know which floor the room is on
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Related advice
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.
When a repair is not the answer
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Steel that has corroded right through
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
Surfaces we repair
- Cast iron baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
- Acrylic baths
