Bath re-enamelling in St James without replacing anything
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. If you are dealing with enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and several chips and rust patches, we can generally put it right.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are covered after the visit.

Should I try a DIY kit first?
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Keeping it looking good
So the finish stays in good condition for years:
- Store bottles off the bath
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
Work for landlords and builders
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.
Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
When to call us in St James
Enamel does not fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, starting where water runs and sits.
People typically call us after spotting something like this:
- Thin, worn enamel in places
- Stains that won’t shift
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

Prices and what affects them
Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for St James. The price reflects:
- How hard the colour is to match
- What kind of damage it is
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
Send pictures for a quote
The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- Details of any past repairs
Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote the same day in most cases.
What we can’t put right
Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Holes rusted through the metal
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
What we work on
- Basins & shower trays
- Cast iron baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
Repairing versus replacing in St James
For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.
- First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
- We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
- The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.
Getting ready for the visit
- Ensure the room can be ventilated
- Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Common questions in St James
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.
Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?
Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.
Is there any odour?
Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.
Can you quote from photos?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Will there be fumes?
Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Do I have to be there?
We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
What happens after I send photos?
You will get a fixed quote back, normally with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.
