Common problems we fix in The Common
The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.
It’s worth getting a quote if you see:
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
- Staining under the taps and around the waste
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
Questions to ask before booking

Bath re-enamelling in The Common without replacing anything
After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are lots of chips and rust spots and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

When we’d advise against a repair
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
The Common: your questions answered
Is there a smell?
There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.
How soon can you come?
Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.
Can you do the outside of a roll-top?
Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.
Are there extra charges for The Common?
No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.
Will the new finish last?
Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.
Can you fix a peeling bath coating?
Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.
Do you hold any accreditations?
We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
What does bath re-enamelling cost?
Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:
- Doing more than one item at once
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- The material and finish
- The colour and finish to match
A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book.
Getting a price from pictures
Two or three clear photos are generally enough. It helps if you send:
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Natural light rather than flash
Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job without visiting.
Repair or replace in The Common?
There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

Advice
Aftercare tips
Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- Get any chip repaired quickly
Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
