Bath re-enamelling at your home in The Folly

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths, and common reasons people contact us are a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a coloured bath you want in white.

Rural addresses like The Folly just need a little planning. Let us know about access and where to park, and we’ll do the rest.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in The Folly and across Hertfordshire.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Respect the curing time we give you

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Repair or replace in The Folly?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Older homes around The Folly may have sizes and fittings that new pieces do not match. Repairing avoids those problems.

Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work. In a village or hamlet like The Folly, access can be the only tricky part. Once we are there, the bath re-enamelling works exactly as anywhere else.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Advice

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed price from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Details of any past repairs

Send us photos of the damage and one of the whole item, with your AL4 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
