Bath re-enamelling in Tranch without replacing anything

If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our technicians work on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

For a price in Tranch, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

When to call us in Tranch

Often the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is typically perfectly sound.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Stains that will not shift

What your quote should include

  • If travel is included in the price
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What prep work is covered

10 questions to ask before you book

What happens on the day

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a full day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Ensure the area is dry

Related advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Tranch: your questions answered

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Should you replace it?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Nothing else is disturbed. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Tranch. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
