Bath re-enamelling in Tripwell without replacing anything
Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We regularly repair cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and people most frequently call us about an old resurfacing that’s failing and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

The process
When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job typically takes a full day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.
Before we arrive
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Have a window or extractor fan available
How to get a price
There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Aftercare tips
How the surface is treated afterwards matters:
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Store bottles off the bath
- Respect the curing time we give you
The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.
On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
When to call us in Tripwell
Frequently the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is typically as strong as ever.
You may need us if you’ve spotted:
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- Stains that will not shift
- Thin, worn enamel in places
- Chips and rust in more than one place
Before booking anyone
- The length of the guarantee and what it covers
- If travel is included in the price
- Whether a trained technician does the job
- Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
What your bath is made of matters
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Can I fix it myself?
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
Should you replace it?
Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, with the bath back in use the following day. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What a repair cannot fix
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- A bath that is rusted through
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.
