Bath re-enamelling near Trispen

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Trispen

We do not move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Whether it’s worn patches where water runs and sits and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, we can help, on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It typically takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Should you replace it?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material
  • Doing more than one item at once

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

How to get a fixed price

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material

If you’re in Trispen and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

When to call us in Trispen

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

What to look for in a quote

  • Who will actually do the work
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How changes to the job are handled

Choosing a repair company

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Have chips seen to early

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Questions from Trispen

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.
