Bath re-enamelling in Uffculme without replacing anything

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, and you can use the bath the day after. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Whether it’s enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Uffculme?

Often the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is generally perfectly sound.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What protection goes down before work starts

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your photos

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Email us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you’re in Uffculme, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.
