How we handle bath re-enamelling in Upper Stratton

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Typical jobs include a bath in a colour that no longer suits and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What we do, step by step

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. It normally takes the best part of a day, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

Related advice

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Access to the area
  • How much damage there is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

When we would advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Why repair rather than replace?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

When to call us in Upper Stratton

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

What to look for in a quote

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • How to care for the finish
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
