Bath re-enamelling in Watley's End, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It normally takes one visit, and can be used again the day after. Whether it’s a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and lots of chips and rust spots, we can usually put it right, on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops alike.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

What we do, step by step

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Work done at your home or business
  • One visit for most repairs

What we’re called out for in Watley's End

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

People generally call us when they notice one of these:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

10 questions to ask before booking

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send pictures for a quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed quote.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale can’t build up.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Watley's End: your questions answered

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Watley's End included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
