Bath re-enamelling in Wharfe without replacing anything

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Whether it’s several chips and rust patches and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Wharfe: your questions answered

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

What happens after I send pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • What the surface is made of
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many items we do on one visit

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from pictures

You can normally get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The material, if you know it
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

What we’re called out for in Wharfe

Hard water speeds up the wear, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off

Before you book anyone

  • How soon you can use it again
  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Who turns up on the day

Choosing a repair company

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which generally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Landlord and trade work in Wharfe

For anyone letting property in or around Wharfe, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we will price them together.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will handle the rest.

Keeping it looking good

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Repairing versus replacing in Wharfe

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Wharfe. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
