How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send photos for a quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Any details about the material
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Bath re-enamelling in Coates, done in place

We don’t move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are a coating lifting around the plughole and worn patches where water runs and sits.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Coates and across Lancashire.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

The process

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • One visit for most repairs
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Common problems we fix in Coates

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Stains that won’t shift

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
