Need bath re-enamelling in Whetsted?

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Whetsted

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, and you can use the bath the day after. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. We’re often asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and an outdated colour you’d like to change, in pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

What we’re called out for in Whetsted

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Our hiring checklist

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. We protect the area first, then the work takes the best part of a day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

How to care for the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How to get a fixed quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately whether it can be repaired.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
