How we handle bath re-enamelling in Wike

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are a coating lifting around the plughole and wear marks under the taps.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Wike and across Leeds.

Wike: your questions answered

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Will the new finish last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Ask for a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Wike as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Wike. The price reflects:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material and finish

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

How to get a fixed quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
