Bath repair near Backlands

Bath repair at your home in Backlands

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the next day. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. Common call-outs are for chips on the rim or sides and impact holes in acrylic, on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Backlands as everywhere else we work.

Backlands: your questions answered

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Do you cover the entire of Moray?

The entire UK, including all of Moray. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Is a bath repair permanent?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

The process

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the day after.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

For landlords and businesses

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll arrange it.

Hospitality businesses cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Repair or replace in Backlands?

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Our bath repair starts from £95. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Backlands. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Backlands

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send photos for a quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
