Bath repair for Bare homes

Bath repair in Bare, done in place

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We’re frequently asked to fix snagging damage from a refit and impact holes in acrylic, in pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Bare and across Lancashire.

When to call us in Bare

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A hole punched through by something heavy

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Repairing versus replacing in Bare

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one typically means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in a single visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Your questions about bath repair in Bare

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How invisible is a bath repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.
