About our bath repair in Barmston

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Typical jobs include damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and chips under the taps, on acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Barmston and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. You will know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What the surface is made of

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A picture taken from further back
  • The material, if you know it

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Store metal items away from the bath

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Questions from Barmston

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Sunderland.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send photos.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Often, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Barmston

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.
