About bath repair in Sunderland
Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles aren’t touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. Common call-outs are for damage beneath the taps and chips on the rim or sides, across roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a few hours. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.
- We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
- We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
- The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
- We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
- Once it has cured, usually by the next day, the bath is ready to use.
What you’ll pay
Our bath repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
- Do not scrub with anything abrasive
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.
Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.
Can I fix it myself?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
Different materials, different repairs
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Honest limits
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
Repair or replace?
Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in a single visit.
