Bath repair in Brampton Ash

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

How we handle bath repair in Brampton Ash

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. Our technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and common reasons people get in touch are damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and a kit repair that didn’t last.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Should you replace it?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why book with us

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • No need to remove anything
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

See our full price list or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you’re not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes two to three hours for most chips. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material
  • How much damage there is

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll say right away if a repair is the right fix.

Common questions in Brampton Ash

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there is more, we’ll tell you before starting.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole UK, including Brampton Ash and the rest of Northamptonshire. Send your postcode with your pictures and we will confirm dates.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long before I can use the bath?

Generally the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.
