Bath repair at your home in Breach

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles aren’t touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. Common call-outs are for rusty patches near the plughole and chips under the taps, on cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes two to three hours for most chips. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

When to call us in Breach

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Legs that aren’t adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the bath move until the acrylic gives way.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Chips under the taps
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

10 questions to ask before booking

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Breach questions

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Do you work in Breach?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Breach from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Normally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

What affects the price in Breach

Repairs from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Breach. The price comes down to:

  • The material and finish
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The type of damage

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from photos

You can usually get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Something in shot to show the size

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Repairing versus replacing in Breach

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim generally crack when it comes out, a new panel is often needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.
