How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for two to three hours for most chips from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the following day.

Bath repair in Brokes, done in place

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the day after. Typical jobs include rust by the waste and overflow and cracks in an acrylic bath, on acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work
  • The type of damage

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Send pictures for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Repair or replace in Brokes?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

FAQs for Brokes

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

How invisible is a bath repair?

We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we will tell you what to expect.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Which areas do you work in?

Across the UK. Prices don’t change with location.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best:

  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

What we are called out for in Brokes

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

People typically call us when they notice one of these:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
