Common problems we fix in Broomhill

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Damage beneath the taps

Bath repair at your home in Broomhill

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, is repaired in place. Nothing is unplumbed, your tiles stay as they are, and the repaired area is colour-matched so it blends in. If you are dealing with damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, we can normally put it right, on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material
  • Doing more than one item at once

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Fixed prices from your photos

Take a look at our prices page and bath cost comparison.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

How do I get a price for bath repair in Broomhill?
