What happens on the day

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, tidy-up included.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Advice

Bath repair in Brown Knowl without replacing anything

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Common call-outs are for a cracked acrylic bath and impact holes in acrylic, in cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

There is nothing special to do after a repair. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How much damage there is
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Brown Knowl. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

If you are in Brown Knowl and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Repairing versus replacing in Brown Knowl

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one usually means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. A repair fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.
