Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

How we handle bath repair in Brownlow

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the day after. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. We work on acrylic, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and a chipped rim or side.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

When a repair is not the answer

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Repairing versus replacing in Brownlow

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it deals only with the damage in one visit. Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Same prices wherever you are

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Allow a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Brownlow questions

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

How long before I can use the bath?

Typically the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.
