Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.

Why book with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • A fixed quote before booking

Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • The material, if you know it
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

Email us pictures of the damage and one of the whole item, with your LL67 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Ensure the area is dry

Get a quote

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What we can’t put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Cemaes

  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Have new chips seen to early

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

Cemaes questions

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Do you cover Cemaes?

We do. We send a technician to Cemaes for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.
