Repairing versus replacing in Clachan

People frequently assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Landlord and trade work in Clachan

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Clachan use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What happens on the day

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There is no charge for travel to Clachan. The price comes down to:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any details about the material

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Questions from Clachan

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

How do I get a price for bath repair in Clachan?

Repairs from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your PA29 postcode.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Often, if there is access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Do you cover the whole of Argyll and Bute?

We cover the entire UK, including Clachan and the rest of Argyll and Bute. Send your postcode with your photos and we will confirm dates.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.
