How we handle bath repair in Clestrain

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, is repaired in place. There is no plumbing to disconnect, your tiles stay as they are, and the repaired area is colour-matched so it blends in. Common call-outs are for deep scratches in acrylic and impact holes in acrylic, across cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Clestrain questions

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Are there extra charges for Clestrain?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send photos.

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in Clestrain, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Repair or replace in Clestrain?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can normally use the bath the day after.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Send us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your KW17 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

When we would advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A steel bath rusted through

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we work on in Clestrain

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.
