How we handle bath repair in Cookley Street
Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. If you are dealing with damage beneath the taps and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, we can normally put it right, on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths alike.
You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Why repair rather than replace?
People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Typically it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Why book with us
- Colour mixed on the day to match
- Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
- Typically one visit, start to finish
- A fixed quote before you book

How to look after the repair
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
- Do not leave a fresh chip for long
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
- Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.
Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.
Can I fix it myself?
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
How it works
On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a morning or an afternoon, tidy-up included.
- We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
- Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
- The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
- The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
- The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.
Before we arrive
- Open a window if you can
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
- Keep a parking space free if you can
How to get a price
The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures using our quote form or ring us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.
Related advice
Common problems we fix in Cookley Street
The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Chips along the edge of the bath
- Rusty patches near the plughole
- Scuffs and scratches in the surface
- A cracked acrylic bath
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether they match the colour on site
- What protection goes down before work starts
- What prep work is covered
What a repair can’t fix
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What your bath is made of matters
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.
