Bath repair across IP19: what to expect

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath. You can typically use the bath the following day. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic, and common reasons people get in touch are rusty patches near the plughole and cracks in an acrylic bath.

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It usually takes a morning or an afternoon, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

How to get a price

If you’re in IP19 and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Near you in Halesworth

Our clients here include homes close to White Hart Hotel, Church of St Mary the Virgin and Edgar Sewter Community Primary School. Halesworth has its own railway station: Halesworth station. Further afield, we also cover the area around Halesworth and District Museum (less than half a mile north-east) and Blything Rural District (1.9 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Church Farm Marshes.

Signs you need bath repair

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A chipped rim or side
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A chip where the taps sit

Repair or replace?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Rinse it down after each bath

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
