Common problems we fix in Cowling
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Damage beneath the taps
- Holes from dropped items
- An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
- Deep scratches in acrylic
What your quote should include
- When it can be used again
- What aftercare is recommended
- How your room will be protected
- Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
Bath repair in Cowling, done in place
We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath. Most baths can be used again the next day. If you’re dealing with rusty patches near the plughole and snagging damage from a refit, we can help.
All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in North Yorkshire.

When a repair isn’t the answer
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
- Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
- A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
What we work on
- Roll-top & freestanding
- Cast iron enamel
- Acrylic
- Whirlpool & spa baths
- Pressed steel enamel
Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.
What we do, step by step
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.
How to prepare
- Open a window if you can
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
Aftercare tips
So the finish stays in good condition for years:
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
- If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
- Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
Care for the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.
If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

How we price bath repair
Prices start from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Cowling. The price comes down to:
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- How many areas need work
- How easy the damage is to reach
- How hard the colour is to match
The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.
How to get a fixed price
Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- A picture taken from further back
- Natural light rather than flash
If you’re in Cowling and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.
