Bath repair near Elm

How we handle bath repair in Elm

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the following day. We are frequently asked to fix a hole punched through by something heavy and a chip where the taps sit, in cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Ask for a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Elm questions

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Will the repair show?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, so Elm is covered. Prices do not change with location.

Signs you need bath repair in Elm

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A chipped rim or side

Should you replace it?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one usually means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and disposing of the old one. A repair fixes just the damaged area in a single visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why us?

  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • A fixed quote before booking

When a repair is not the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Elm. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How hard the colour is to match

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • What it’s made of, if you know

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.
