Bath repair for Foulden homes

How we handle bath repair in Foulden

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, your tiles stay as they are, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Our repair technicians work on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and holes from dropped items.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

What we’re called out for in Foulden

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Most people contact us after spotting one of these:

  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Snagging damage from a refit

How to care for the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • What the surface is made of

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from pictures

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A photo taken from further back
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed price the same day in most cases.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes two to three hours for most chips. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Foulden: your questions answered

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Are there extra charges for Foulden?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Do you cover Foulden?

We do. We send a technician to Foulden for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in a single visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.
