Bath repair in Fownhope

How we handle bath repair in Fownhope

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, typically in a single visit. Typical jobs include an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, across roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

For a rural address like Fownhope, we plan the journey and the visit in advance. Let us know about access and where to park, and we’ll take care of the rest.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Fownhope as everywhere else we work.

FAQs for Fownhope

Do you come out to small places like Fownhope?

We do: small places like Fownhope are covered as standard. Just mention any tricky access.

Can you restore the original baths in an older house in Fownhope?

In most cases: period pieces can be hard to match if replaced. We will give you an honest view from photos.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long before I can use the bath?

Usually the day after. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

What happens next?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Frequently, if there is access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare. Somewhere as small as Fownhope, access is normally the main thing to plan. Once on site, the job is the same as anywhere.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

What we cannot put right

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

What we are called out for in Fownhope

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

If you live in one of the older homes near a church such as Church of St Mary, it may still have its original cast iron bath, which is well worth repairing or re-enamelling rather than replacing.
