Bath repair for Frenchay homes

How we handle bath repair in Frenchay

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and you can generally bathe again the day after. There is no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath doesn’t move. Whether it’s holes from dropped items and rust spots around the plughole, we can help.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take a few hours, depending on the damage. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Let us know about parking or access

Advice

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Frenchay: your questions answered

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How much does bath repair cost in Frenchay?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item with your BS16 postcode.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

What affects the price in Frenchay

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Frenchay. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Frenchay. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

You can take the photos on your phone. Make sure they show:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Should you replace it?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What you get with us

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

A small chip is a quick job. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so early repair saves time and money.
